Soccer in Padova, where to stay

I am taking my son to Germany and Italy in March to see European soccer (futbol). We are traveling by train from Munich to Padova, and will arrive in the morning. The soccer game is that night. The next morning, we will take the train to Venice. What would be a good hotel near Stadio Euganeo in Padova for one night? Should we stay near the basilica instead and just taxi it to and from the game? It will end late. Has anyone purchased soccer tickets to Padova?

(Why Padova? Because Venice's games are on Sundays (not an option) and Treviso's team may be defunct. In Munich, we will stay with a friend and see FC Bayern.)
Thanks,
Christine

Christine what a fun trip that will be! I am not sure where the stadio is in Padova but in the summer of 2007 our family of 4 spent one night here enroute to our agriturismo near Lake Garda. We picked up our rental car at the Venice airport and spent the night at Casa del Pellegrino which is just across the street from the Basilica of St. Anthony. Casa P. is not a fancy place but we found it perfectly fine. We spent part of one evening and the next day here visiting the Scrovegni Chapel, etc. and enjoyed our time here. We were in France and Italy in the summer of 2006 during the World Cup and what fun that was. When Italy won the World Cup we were in Sorrento and it was unforgettable!

Yes, I think it will be lots of fun to see European soccer -- in Europe! Thanks for the tip on lodging.
