Will be attending a soccer match at stadio olimpico next Sunday at 9:45. I will need to get back to rental house in monti district not far from the colosseum. I imagine the game will let out near midnight or after. Upon research, it looks like some public transport is closed after 11:30-12. Read some reviews where people couldn't get taxis and walked for miles to their hotels. Any sure fire suggestions for transportation? I have a taxi app.-could I walk somewhere uncrowded and then call a taxi. Or does anybody know the closest taxi queue? Are the taxi services ever full? Not being familiar with Rome, I'm a little apprehensive about wandering around trying to find an area for a cab pick-up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would think even if some public transportation is running, that it would be extremely crowded.
My extensive research shows ACS Fiorentina is playing SS Lazio at Stadio Olimpico with a kickoff at 8:45 pm, so the match should be complete by 11 pm at the latest.
The night soccer matches start at 20:45 (8:45pm). They are two halves of 45 min each with a half time break of 15 min in between. So the soccer match will last 1h45min. Add a few minutes added for injury time and the time to walk out of the stadium and u will be outside the stadium by 11pm. The walk to the bus stop (no 32 or 280) is 5 min. If you take the tramway (no 2) it's a bit farther, maybe 10). If it's not too crowded you should be aboard well before 11:30pm. On match days they have extra runs too, so don't worry you won't be stranded at the Foro Italico.
I saw that same Fiorentina - Lazio game on a Sunday night in 2013 at the Stadio. We didn't have any issues getting back after the game. We took Tram #2 from the Flamino metro stop up to the stadium. We just followed all the people, and same leaving. Followed the crowd back to the tram stop.
If I purchase a 24 hour metro card-half of the websites say its good for 24 hours, the other half say it expires at midnight of day purchased. Does anyone know definitive answer? Also, since you have to insert card upon entering AND exiting metro station....how do you use the 24 hour card since you are only suppose to validate one time when you start using and not again until your last trip? How do I exit metro without stamping 24 hour card AGAIN( I plan to use on tram as well)?
I guess I would rely on the official Rome Transit Authority website. 24 hours from first validation (stamp).
