Snav boat from Naples to Capri

Hi all
My family of 4 adults have train tix from Rome to Naples leaving at Rome 7:00 and arriving in Naples at 8:12. Our intention is to then travel by boat to the Isle of Capri immediately after departing the train. This will require a taxi to the Napoli Beverello Dock. I have the following questions:

  1. Can I expect that this early train out of Rome to be on time getting into Naples?
  2. Should I buy boat tickets in advance for 9:10am departure (approximately an hour after our expected arrival in Naples ) or, should I leave more time and purchase boat tickets for 10:10am departure? The 10:10am would give us a 2 hour gap between arriving in Naples and boarding the boat.
  3. Should I even buy boat tickets in advance? Are lines long to buy tickets? We only have two nights on Capri and want to get there as soon as we can. Ultimately, we don’t want to be shut out of getting on the boat to Capri from Naples due to not buying tickets in advance.

Month of year? Is the train a Frecciarossa? How much luggage? What time do you want to leave Capri? How do you get to the hotel from the ferry?

  • June 13th is the date of departure from Rome bound for Napoli.
  • The Train is Frecciarosa 9501 leaving Rome at 7:00am and arriving in Napoli at 8:12am
  • Boat from Napoli to Capri leaves at 9:10 and hourly thereafter.
  • Luggage is minimal - each person will only have a backpack of allowed carry on size - no other bags.
  • we are staying on Capri June 13 and June 14. Therefore, we only need a one way boat ticket. to Capri. We will not need a return boat ticket. We will leave Capri on June 15 and go to Positano for two nights

Well, note that Positano can only take much smaller boats than Naples. If you are shut out of (a rougher-ride ...) the Positano boats, you'll be forced to take a bigger boat to Sorrento, and a bus to the station in Sorrento for the bus to Positano, which is over-capacity. Set aside 150 Euros for a cab to Positano from Sorrento. Find out how many steps up-hill to your Positano hotel, and how the luggage gets there.

Thank you for the advice ! I really appreciate it.

One question that went unanswered:

  • Should I buy the boat ticket from Naples to Capri in advance ?

natique2, I'm taking the same 7am train from Rome to Naples in mid-April and booked the 9:30 ferry with NLG. Like you, I had been looking at the 9:10 with Snav but felt it was cutting it a bit to close since they request that you check in 30 minutes prior to departure. I'm not sure how strict they are with that rule, but I figured the extra twenty minutes was a good idea. Hope this is helpful and have a great trip.

To be honest, I have only taken the ferries in Sorrento and Capri, not in Naples. But because June is a high traffic month, and because Frecciarossa service is pretty reliable. I'd go ahead and buy the 9:10. I don't know if the situation is identical in Naples but I want to note that in Sorrento, if you were standing at their ticket counter, Ferry Company A is NOT going to tell you, "Hey, you could leave 20 minutes earlier if you go over to Ferry Company B."

Tim, I would like to be clear. I was NOT implying that I, the OP or anyone should purchase a ticket for ferry A and try to get on ferry B if they arrive 20 minutes early. I was simply stating that I was on the same timeline and found another company that had a departure 20 minutes later. Since they ask that you show up 30 minutes early, for me that was cutting it a little close. I'd rather show up early and hang out on the pier then sweat it if there is a delay somewhere.
