Just wondering if Rome and Florence have restaurants that are smoke-free?
Virtually everywhere is. Italy has a smoke free law that basically states that unless you have a separate well ventilated smoking room, no smoking is allowed in any restaurants. I never saw anyone smoking in one on our trip last year.
I believe all indoor restaurant seating is now smoke free, but that smoking is still allowed at outdoor tables.
Frank is right. Smoking is only allowed outdoors. Restaurants can allow smoking indoors if they have a completely separate room with a door for the smokers - not just a "smoking section."
As the others have indicated, Italy has very strict laws regarding smoking (hopefully Austria will adopt similar laws SOON)!!! I've seen people forcibly ejected from buildings if they ignore the laws and "light up". I suspect there are heavy fines for those that are caught smoking.
Happy travels!
