SMART versus SMART 2

I understand that a SMART fare on Trenitalia is like a mini fare when crossing an international border (like Milano to Spiez). What is SMART 2 fare? I couldn't find the explanation on the Trenitalia website. The difference is € 19 versus € 29. I'd appreciate any insights that you may have. My plan is to travel from Milan to Spiez on a SMART fare and then buy a Swiss Rail ticket (advance purchase) from Spiez to Murren (getting my Swiss ticket authorized in the Spiez station) Does that make economic sense? Thanks for your help. Tom

Hi Tom they are just two different discount fares; the cheaper one sells out first; buy the cheapest available. however after selection you need to check for a red or green 'dot' to see if the fare is available on that train - look and you'll see what i mean.... Your plan is good. for these intl tix, you will be sent a code, then pick up your tix in Italy ('self service' option); it is very easy at any major station in Italy. Enjoy your trip!
