Small towns

We are staying/basing in San Gimignano for several days and would like to drive to small, medieval villages and towns. Here are some that I found and would like feedback on these or othe s you would recommend.

Close to SG: Barberino Val d'Elsa, Lucignano, Casole d'Elsa, Colle Val d'Elsa; including:, Staggia Senese, Radicondoli, and Chiusdino.

Chianti: Radda, Gaiole, Castellina

Sienna: Monteriggioni, Abbadia a Isola

Other suggestions for day trips from SG are welcome. Thanks.

Every one you noted is great ! Add Greve to the Chianti list.

And add Volterra ! I liked it better than San Gimi....

It will be a longer drive, but the Crete Senses region of Montepulicano and Pienza is different from the winding hills of the Chianti region and is delightful.

Add Volterra (a must) and Certaldo (birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio), both near San Gimignano.

Radicondoli, Chiusdino, and Lucignano, are not that close (well over one hour drive).
Montepulciano, Pienza, Monticchiello, Crete Senesi, are all at least 1.5 hours away, but worth the drive.

If you are going as far as Lucignano, you might as well visit Cortona, which is close to Lucignano and more important.
