Small, quaint, local restaurant near Pantheon? P-Navona?

Hello - we are staying at Albergo del Senato starting next week (next to Pantheon) and wondering about meals. I am worried about paying tourist prices - we would love to eat where the locals eat. Preferrably the smaller restaurants. Any picks? Or maybe near Piazza Navona? Thanks!

I think you might be asking for what doesn't exist. The locals probably don't eat in the middle of a tourist-dense area.

If you go east a couple of blocks on the same street that runs in front of the Pantheon and walk around in that area, you'll find a bunch of restaurants with fair prices and pretty good grub. They all have menus out front.

We really liked Armando and it was not over run with tourists at all--lots of locals dining there. We stopped by to make a reservation and this would be necessary as it is small. The food was very good and when I commented that the dish I ordered did not have an artichoke the waiter said it was not a problem and brought me a complimentary one. Nice family run restaurant. It is located near the Pantheon. Have a great trip!

Just returned from Rome on Saturday and had a really good dinner at a restaurant maybe a block from the Pantheon called il Barroccio (still have the card - on Via dei Pastini, 13). Our local guide said it's where he takes his family when they come into the city for a dinner and we were very pleased.

You can eat outside or on first or second floor inside. Good service and food, reasonably priced. Not four star dining but filled with locals after eight o'clock.

Well, there is a Mc Donald's right across from the Pantheon. They are reasonably priced! Seriously there is, I can't believe that Italy would allow that.

I remember there being a small deli being right on the side of the Pantheon that only locals were in. I remember having a nice little meal there.

those two areas are close to each other...i recall just walking around those areas and going down little side streets and alleys and finding small wonderful places to eat...i stayed away from anyplace that had someone out front trying to get me to come in and looked for menus written in just italian...

Trattoria de Pallero (sorry, my memory is failing me)

In Rick's books. Not too too far away. They just bring you what grandma's making that day. We loved it.

During our stay in Rome, we tried to only eat where the Romans eat. I found that eating right on a Piazza can be very touristy. One of my favorite restaurants in Rome (we ate there a few times) is this great little place just a few steps off of Piazza Navona on Piazza Pasquino #73. It's called "Cul de Sac." It's an enoteca, there's floor to ceiling wine bottles and they have great wines (all prices - all regions of Italy). They claim to have the oldest and best stocked wine bar in Rome. The food was excellent. We had great pastas, ordered a cheese & meat platter, which was exquisite. My mouth is just watering thinking about that place. A word of advice: For dinner, try to get there b/t 7-8pm, as the place gets packed with locals. There's outside seating, which I would highly recommend. It gets very hot inside.
