Small bag/purse OK for San Marco Basilica - Venice

Hi - I read through the official site for San Marco and it doesn't say the size of the bag that is allowed inside. Would a small purse be OK? Something small to hold our passports, wallets and other essentials? Are water bottles allowed? Thank you.

You can carry a regular size purse into San Marco. I used a cross body travelon (safety clip closure last month with passport wallet etc....it wasn't tiny. I don't think we had water bottles with us at the time so I'm not sure.

I also had a regular-size cross-body bag with me when I went to San Marco in September 2022. I always carry a water bottle, and I think I'd remember for sure if someone told me I needed to dump it out.

I carried a Tom Binh small café cross-body bag everywhere in Italy (including St. Mark's) and was only asked to check it once (at the Borghese in Rome). A small (or even medium-size) purse should be just fine. I can't remember if I saw people with water bottles, though. We've gotten into the habit of not carrying them while sight-seeing.

OT
You should be carrying your passport somewhere deep on your person -such as in a money belt
Not in a little purse
Too easy to fall out and be lost
