My kind of trip!

Just back. Sorrento was crowded but still lovely. Ischia was amazing, and while there were some areas of congestion, it was amazing. The resorts are going to close pretty soon, however, so be aware that it may not be all that exciting.

Well, Sorrento is definitely a 'place to call home'. Even with us staying 5 nights in a substandard B&B right by Piazza Tasso, and the weather being horrendous (early March) most of our time there, no doubt we appreciated the logistical haven that is Sorrento, the best base on the Amalfi peninsula.

Food is fabulous & reasonable, the edgy-but-fun (at least to me) Circumvesuviana is a dirt-cheap way to get almost anywhere in the vicinity of Naples, with the SITA bus available to take one to the other side, the actual A.C. and for those into shopping, plenty of little shops as well.

I leave next week. It will be really hard not to visit Venice being only a few hours by train...i guess i will just play it by ear:)

Think am being slow, isnt Venice the other end of Italy to Sorrento? Doubt its a few hours......

By train, from Salerno, it tales 5-6 Hours to Venice.

18 hours by bus.

My first taste of Italy was in a water taxi on the ride into Venice from the airport...I was thinking am I really here. But, later in the trip I fell in love with Sorrento. I will travel slow this trip and only stay a few days in Ischia in the Castle. You will find me on the piazza in Sorrento having a beer or two...or three. I will eat neapolitan pizza every day and seafood pasta every night.I will save a Venice trip when I can spend more time.

looks like rain every day...but if I remember right the rain lasts for 5 minutes...kinda like Orlando, FL...just pack a good rain jacket and umbrella

for rain to hover over a peninsula is very rare...it will downpour for 5 minutes...then quit
