When visiting Italy, my husband and I enjoy finding out about places where we can go and eat a food or drink a drink that is recognized as being particular to a town or area. For instance, we will go to Pontremoli in Tuscany to eat testarolo or to Castelluccio in Umbria to eat lentils.
So, for a return trip to Sicily next spring, I was looking at this Slow Food website to learn more about the "manna" that is harvested from ash trees near Castelbuono where we might want to stay --- it's hardened sweet sap that has dripped from cuts in the tree and resembles slender white icicles. Looks like we won't be able to see this in April, but we can still buy the product.
Anyway, it occurred to me that other people here might like to look up local products --- it is a nice website and goes into the history and cultivation of the foods:
