Sling Bags in the Duomo museums in Florence

Hi all,

My husband and I are planning a trip to Florence in the next few months and we purchased passes for the Duomo in Florence.
When we purchased tickets, it told us that there were no backpacks permitted in the Duomo and its sites.

We are each planning on carrying a small sling bag with a single strap. We'd wear it crossbody across our chests to hold a water bottle and everyday items. (Our specific sling bag is from Amazon by Waterfly).

Can anyone successfully entered the Duomo and its museums recently with this type of sling bag or did you have to check it?

Our backpack was just a bit larger than yours and we were asked to check it. Our guide had a crossbody hobo type purse and she was fine. It’s Italy, it’s probably going to depend on the employee and if they ask you to check it, it’s best not to argue that someone told you it would be ok.

Thank you for your reply. It sounds like it's a good possibility depending on the employee because it may be borderline. We'll be prepared to check it if necessary and shift any small amounts of cash in it to our money belts in advance. This will be my 4th trip to Italy (my husband's first) and I know not to argue with Italian officials or police.

We were in Florence in October, 2023, and had Giotto Passes for the sites. I carried a Tom Binh small cafe bag as my cross-body bag and didn't have to check it. In fact, the only place I was required to check it on our VFR Tour was the Borghese Gallery in Rome.
