Sleeping in Venice - Monasteries

Our Italy travel plans call for two or three nights in Venice. We recently discovered that you can stay at several of the Monasteries in Venice. Does any the Rick Steve's faithful have experience staying with them? Thoughts, experiences and recommendations please!

I have, in Venice and elsewhere. Booked through monasterystays.com. The places I stayed in Venice are the Casa Caburlotto and the Casa Sant’ Andrea. Both have gone over to being more like regular hotels (Sant’ Andrea has a 24 hr desk), and can be booked with directly. Both are close to the Piazzale Roma, making them convenient to get to. Both have very plain and simple rooms - totally fine, bathrooms in the room, pretty ok breakfast included (Italian breakfasts don’t generally thrill me, but they’re fine). Casa Caburlotto has a curfew.

I also used monasterystays.com for my visit to Venice in October 2018 for a full week. I booked a room associated with Madonna dell Orto church in the Cannaregio disctrict. It was cheap (maybe 80 EUR -- don't remember) breakfast included. The rooms were newly renovated but sparse. No TV but wifi signal was strong. Bathroom was huge. Breakfast was simple rolls, pastries, cereal, yogurt, tea and coffee. There was a fridge filled with bottled water (still and sparkling) for everyone to use. They ask that you not eat in the rooms but are welcome to bring your food to the breakfast area. There is a microwave. They have an elevator. No curfew. They gave me two sets of keys -- one for my room and one for the main entrance door. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

I have done, very happily, but not recently (I now have a few favourite places to stay in Venice but now they are all hotels).

If you put "monasteries venice" in the search facility here (top of the webpage or under the burger bars on a phone) then filter by Forums then filter by within last year or within 6 months you will find lots of previous threads.

Stayed at Casa Carbulotto last April booking thru Monastery Stays. Cost $130 euros for two. We loved the location, quiet, simple and easy access to bus/train/vaporetto stops. Ate in the university area. Would happily stay there again. Have no interest in an hour trip from the center of Venice hauling luggage to get to train or bus. In April hotels were 100 euro more per night and much more. Get a vaporetto pass for the days you are visiting. We loved the Secret tour of Doges Palace. Be sure the lights are on in St Marks or it is just dark inside.
