There are so many places to stay in Venice. I have reviewed the RS book, and notice Rick tours stay at Pensione Guerrato. I have stayed previously at Pensione Accademia. Please comment on recent stays at Guerrato- prices, cleanliness, location, etc. Thank you.
Guerrato is wonderful. We've stayed there twice. For prices and location you can go to their website. Have a great time.
q1 - Very good for Venice
q2 - Never had an issue
q3 - Hard to beat - we love it
q4 - no etc.
I stayed there last October. The location for me was perfect based on what I planned to do. There was a transportation strike my second day so I was able to walk everywhere easily. The hotel is one minute from the Rialto Mercato vaporetto stop. It's about five minutes from the Rialto bridge stop, but then you have to haul your luggage up and over the bridge. My room was spacious, but the private bath was tiny. However, it was perfectly adequate. The wifi was spotty in my room, but was great in the lobby. I understand the wifi doesn't reach all of the rooms. Breakfast was continental. Nothing fancy and no fruit, but, it was fine for being included. Just down the "street" was a great wine store. Also. It's just around the corner from cichetti bars and some great, local restaurants. There are no elevators. You will go up at least one flight of stairs to reception. There are some rooms on that 2nd floor. My room was in the 3rd floor. Roberto carried my luggage up and down for me, although I could have managed on my own. He gave me a map and directions to wherever I wanted to go. I slept worth my window open, but the shutters closed. It's right at the market so it's a bit noisy in the mornings, but not so bad with the window closed. I didn't hear any noise from other gust rooms. The room didn't have a hair dryer, but they gave me one at the front desk to use during my stay. I was able to pay with a credit card, but the daily tax had to be paid in cash. I think it's one euro per night, not sure if that's per room or per person. I'm staying here again in July on my tour and looking forward to it. When I walked to St. mark's, I think it took me maybe 20 minutes, which wasn't bad since I was half using the map and half following the arrows. Ask for the free fold up map at reception. It's great since it also has their contact information in case you get lost.
Hopefully this is helpful. If you have more questions, let me know.
Two more things -
Price, not the least expensive, not the most expensive. Their website has the prices. I paid more for a private bath, so you can save by having a shared bath.
Cleanliness - very clean, no complaints.
We stayed there two years ago and loved it. We had a room with a shared bathroom but never once had to wait for it. I felt that the price was very reasonable for Venice. The room had air conditioning and was very clean. I thought the location was fantastic. Enjoy your trip!
Guerrato-
prices, --in 2014 we stayed on fourth floor, 135E double with bath, prices are now 145E
cleanliness, -- no issues
location, -- close to Rialto, fish markets fruit markets,
would I recommend it yes,
planning to stay again in 2015
Stayed there last year on the top floor and staying there this year again on the top floor. If you can't handle carrying your luggage up flights of steps then you may want to reconsider. Otherwise it's a perfect place.
Thanks, all.
Roberto and Piero are the brothers-in-law who own and run Guerrato. They're both absolutely great. They clearly love what they're doing. We stayed at Guerrato on our first two visits to Venice and they both helped make those two visits truly memorable.
