Sleeping in Trastevere, Rome

Any suggestions for places to stay in the Trastevere section of Rome?

I have had good luck with Cross-Pollinate.com. Great website. Lots of choices. I will be staying in Trastevere in October at one of their lodging choices. Just type in your dates and pensiones and b and b's will pop up in different neighborhoods. Maps, photos and reviews are available. Not big hotels but great affordable lodging.

We had a great apartment there in December 2012, and it has A/C for the summer, but requires a 1-week stay. Will you be in Rome that long?

I stayed at the B&B Arco dei Tolomei in March and absolutely loved it. Right over the "island bridge" in the heart of Trastavere. There are reviews and photos on Trip Advisor.

I did NOT like Arco de Tolomei, but it could be because of our room location. The door to our room was adjacent to the computer desk, and someone was always using it, and we had NO privacy. We also arrived on a direct flight from the U.S., and we arrived very early. There was no one in the office yet, so we stood there with our bags waiting. There was no rest room in the lobby, and you had to go around the corner to the café to get breakfast. The room we reserved was still in use, and we couldn't get into it until 2PM, so no nap! This is always a problem when renting an apartment vs. staying in a hotel, all over Europe because flights
from the U.S. to Europe generally land Very Early.

Now, having said all of this, if you aren't on a direct flight from the U.S. and have a better room location, the place is perfectly adequate and clean, and is definitely in the heart of Trastevere.

We rented an apartment on Via Manara through Sleep in Italy and had a great experience. We were away from the louder, late-night part of the Trastevere, yet close to everything (grocery, restaurants, etc) when we needed them. Although tram #8 stopped nearby, we generally walked.

We have stayed a couple times at Hotel Trastevere. Located about a block from Piazza di Santa Maria and near another piazza with a small market and playground. For Rome, they are still reasonably priced ~100 euro for a double, they also have apartments available. Always found the staff helpful, the place not 5 star, but very pleasant
