skipping getting back onto the ship in Rome and just head to Florence

We are trying to skip Rome for a day and head to Florence for an overnight. Have any of you heard of such a thing or made that happen?

Trying to figure out - my cruise line is saying no, wondering if I had an ill informed person on the phone.

Thanks for your input.

It is up to the cruise ship as how that is handled. The issue is primarily with immigration. The cruise ship has a special arrangements so that passengers do not have to go through immigration and customs at each port stop. The cruise ship is responsible for getting everyone on and off of the ship. It may not be legally possible for you to skip a night on the ship. We got off early once (skipped the last day and the terminal port) and that was a hassle but in that case we were permanently leaving the ship.

If you think you may have had an ill-informed cruise line person on the phone, call back. You are bound to get a different agent. I suspect, though, that it is not permitted for immigration reasons.

Which cruise line? They generally have a specific person/dept that handles this type of request - frequently the people at the regular customer service # are not informed of this. Check with the boards at cruisecritic.com as well.

Go to cruisecritic.com and ask there.

IMO, you should be abke to do it. Immigration should not be an issue. Presumably you already cleared immigration and got entry into a Schengen country and started cruise within Europe.

People have been known to miss departures and then must make their way to the next port on their own. The ship will eventually sail without you. However, you should advise the ship so they won't unduly delay their departure waiting for you.
