I have downloaded the RS audio guide for the Vatican and Sistine chapel. There are 6 of us - two adults and three children plus a 20 year old student (with student ID). So 16€ each for adults and 8€ each for kids. Plus 4€ EACH ticketing fee for online purchase. This seems excessive to me. Worth it? I know people talk about the lines... We are going either June 13 (Monday) or June 14 (Tuesday). One day better than another?
why does it seem excessive to pay this entry fee to one of the greatest museums in the world? There are plenty of third rate museums in the US that are more and I haven't bought a ticket in the US for years that doesn't clip you for buying on line. The lines can stretch blocks and take hours -- or sometimes, especially around lunch time, they can be quite short. I would not bet my valuable vacation time which is surely worth more than 4 Euro an hour that I would luck out and not have to stand in a very long line. I would also not book a tour but only a timed entry ticket.
Thank you!
It's absolutely not excessive however how interested are your daughters (20, 18, 14 and 11) in doing this? I might say if they're not going to appreciate the experience, leave the younger two in the charge of the elder two (or one of them, if one of the elder wishes to go) and just go yourself. It's going to be mobbed, and may not be a worthwhile/pleasant for them if they're not into museums to begin with.
