We are visiting Pompeii next week (January). Should I buy the tickets in advance through an agent, or can we just walk up? We will be arriving around 10 am. Thanks in advance for your answer.
We have been twice once in June and once September heighth of tourism season and both times just walked up and maybe at very most five minute or so wait. Just buy when you arrive.
Agree with previous post. We went in October 2 years ago and arrived when they opened. No problem purchasing tickets.
Why an agent? Wouldn't it be more logical to get tickets on the official site instead of paying a re-seller's fee?
it has been several years since I was at Pompeii and on the 2 times I visited over a 3 year period I just walked up and got tickets at the desk,no queues at all, maybe I was lucky but both times were late September.
No, you shouldn't have any issues just buying them at the site.
But just for reference, this is the official website for the scavi:
http://pompeiisites.org/en/
And not that you need it, this is the official online ticketing office:
https://www.ticketone.it/biglietti.html?affiliate=ITT&includeOnlybookable=false&x10=1&erid=988882&doc=artistPages/tickets&action=tickets&x11=pomp&fun=artist&language=en
Note that they currently only pre-sell tickets up to 4 days in advance
We were there 7 years ago, and who knows what happens now, but when I got in line at the ticket window, there was a small sign in Italian that said "if you can read this, we'll give you a complimentary ticket". And they did. At that time, I was a beginning Italian student, it was quite the thrill.
