Skip the line colosseum tickets

My family and I signed up for a day tour in Rome during our cruise stop on Sep 6. An optional tour is to the Colosseum with skip the line tickets for 20 euros/pp payable to the driver. But they are also charging the same price for our 8 and 11 year old kids. I thought kids' tickets cost less?

Could anyone tell me if we're better off booking our tickets in advance online and if there is a skip the line ticket option online? How do we collect our tickets? Any advice provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Ciaran for the info. I'm wondering though if buying tickets in advance online would allow us to skip the line. It sounds like we still have to fall in line to go through security then fall in line again once inside to collect our tickets. Is this the case? If so, how long does this process take so I can get a better idea.

Yes, that is the case: it isn't possible for anyone to skip the security line, and the time it takes varies according to crowd density and how much stuff people are bringing in. Once inside, any line for picking up your tickets shouldn't take much time at all.

Again, do understand that you can't use the "print at home" option when purchasing adult + "free" children's tickets: I don't think that option even comes up when you run the check-out for your purchase. You'll get a confirmation that you'll print out and bring to show the guards to bypass the longer ticket line and go directly to the security queue. Once inside, you'll proceed to the event desk and show the confirmation again to pick up all of your tickets.

But, this is not necessary as you can do it all on a smartphone and
print later. This is for Full Tickets purchased on their own.

But this is a moot point as the OP needs to purchase tickets for their children as well. So "Collect on site" is the choice for them.

The only tickets that can be printed is adult full priced tickets. If you purchase any tickets other than full priced tickets you won't be able to print any of them at home. Once you combine full prided, reduced, free or tour tickets in a purchase you lose the option to print at home because you must 1) prove you qualify for the discount or 2) check in for the tour and find out the meeting location. This includes on smart phones.

Even when you need to pick up at the box office you still bypass the long ticket lines.

Everyone must go through the security check point, there is no avoiding that but at least with pre-purchased tickets yo avoid the really long ticket lines.

I am trying to book tickets to the Colosseum for November. There isn't an option to select a date. If I purchase it now, will it be valid in November?

Ditto on the print pdf at home from the coopculture site.
I just got mine last night and it was pretty easy. They send the pdf document to your email and then you can download it to pc or phone. It has barcodes etc...so it's a real ticket. Mine was 14E and an open date ticket without a guided tour since I am not sure what day I want to go. I figure that if I want to do a guided tour I can buy it the day I go (5E I think)
Mine says that each ticket is: VALID 2 DAYS IN A ROW FOR 1 ENTRANCE TO THE COLOSSEUM AND 1 TO FORUM/PALATINE

The site says good thru end of year...as below:
Full entrance € 12.00
Reduced entrance € 7.50
Free entrance just to collect onsite + reservation fee: € 2,00
The ticket is valid for only one entrance to each site of the Circuit Colosseum / Foro Romano / Palatino and current exhibitions
Ticket Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine and current exhibitions - Valid for 2 days the ticket can be used within 31/12/17.

Choose your preferred option and skip the line
Ticket on-line
purchase the admission ticket on line and show your order code at the ticket desk

elisern, please read through the thread above? Our OP cannot use the print-at-home option because she needs to include "free" children's tickets with his/her purchase. "Free" tickets cannot be printed at home.** The OP must use the "Collect onsite" option for their adult + children's tickets. They will print out a purchase confirmation for tickets that will be taken to the event desk to collect them.

As someone else said, buy your tickets at the forum. No line there. Same ticket is good for coliseum too.

The line at the forum can get long depending on the time of day. I've waited over half an hour at the forum to get tickets. Yes, that's much less time than the line for the colosseum, but it's still not a "no-line" situation.

Tickets are NOT time nor date specific. They can be used any time during 2017. Tickets are valid for two consecutive days with a single entry to each site. The forum and palatine hill are considered one site because of the internal walkway connecting them.
