Skiing - Selva/Colfosco/Corvara? Lodging Etc.

Hi,

Planning a trip next December for a few days to ski in the area Selva-Colfosco-Corvara - with my family of four, and these towns were recommended to me by an Italian family that visits there often.

I'm wondering which one to stay in, and looking for decent lodging close to lifts that offers ski passes and meals if possible. We are all intermediate skiers/snowboarders but will need to rent gear there too.

Driving down from Munich and leaving toward Venice.

Any help appreciated!

If you are driving down from Munich, and being intermediates, Selva and nearby S. Christina are probably the best bases for the main "Sella Ronda" skiing area! The terrain around Corvara is more beginner-friendly.
Regarding accommodation: good experience for me at Hotel Antares in Selva (close to one of the base lifts!) but honestly there are tons of hotels to choose from and they mostly seem quite good.
For Christmas and especially New Year week you need to book early, and might be stuck with 1-week mandatory stays. The week before (16-23 Dec) should be quieter and perhaps a bit more flexible. Before 16 Dec, snow could be challenging - opening day is likely to be 9 Dec I believe. Anyway, don't expect the best snow, that area is fairly dry... Great snowmaking to make up for it.

Selva is my favorite town in all the Alps. I skied there in early December about 5 years ago. Runs up to the Paso Sella were all open.
Stop in for lunch at Rufugio Emilio Comici on the mountain. Great food, but the restrooms will knock your socks off. The antithesis of all the crummy Italian bathrooms you've heard tell about. And stop in at the Goalie's Pub in Selva. Only hockey goalies get their jerseys hung up on the wall and ceiling. Says the owner, "I was a goalie, my son was a goalie, and my grandson is a goalie."

Thanks Sam! Great to know.

For now, everything is pointing toward Selva!
