I am a brand new traveler and find that my new personal carry on is 2" to wide. How important is 2"? Shall I go luggage shopping again?
Well, it depends! do you want to use your carry-on to actually avoid checking a bag, or do you just want a smaller suitcase for convenience trekking around Italy's cobbled streets and stuff? the 2" is important for the former, but not really the latter.
Marie:If you want to use it for carry-on, those 2" will mean it will be a cargo bag, assuming you mean it is 2" wider than your airline's restrictions.
Rick's Convertible or Rolling bags are carry-on if they are unexpanded. (From my experience it's a good idea to take it unexpanded to my destination but then it will definitely need to be expanded and put in cargo for the return flight due to all my purchases.)
I also usually send my Convertible cargo and take the Apenzell as a carry-on so that I can be sure to arrive with my most valuable possessions. This also means I have extra packing space. My Civita day pack travels empty in my cargo bag so that I have a handy day pack for touring. Hope this helps.
