My wife and I are traveling from Rome to Sorrento but I was hoping to save time by hitting Pompeii and a meal in Naples before getting there. The problem is her bags is a full size 29". I know Rick Steve recommends carry-on but she will have to learn the hard way cause I'm not carrying her bag. The deciding factor is if we can leave our bag somewhere like the trainstation or at the Pompeii site given her bag size? Anyone know what the maximum bag sizes are for checking at the train stations or at the Pompeii turnstyles?
Italy tends to offer bag storage rooms, which are staffed and can take any size of bag, not individual lockers, and that should be the case at the Pompeii locations. They will probably want your bags to be locked, so do be sure to carry a small lock. In European stations that do have lockers, there also are options for larger luggage.
Even with a carry-on sized bag, it's easy to cram in more heavy items than you can carry. Practice handling your bag around the house, carrying it up a flight of stairs, or taking it for a walk around the block. Great thanks Laura
I am not sure you have the sequence correct. It is Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento. You are almost to Sorrento when you are at Pompeii. So if you want a meal in Naples you should do it before going on to Pompeii. Not sure you want to go to Pompeii and then backtrack to Naples. There is luggage storage at both Naples train station and Pompeii. They will take about anything.
You are right Frank, it would have to be lunch I suppose in Naples. Gotta have that pizza pie!!
