Sorry for the short notice - we will be on a cruise ship that will dock in Bari on the 23rd of this month (I know, just four days away). Schedule is that we get there around noon and depart around 8 PM, but we figure we have about 6 hours to go around, hoping to do this on our own.
We have read the suggestions to see Matera (how long would it take to get to the bus station, go to Matera and back, and still make it back to the ship?), Alberobello, Lecce, and Otranto, but we're sure we can't see all of these places. Any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated. There are 11 of us. Thanks.
I think Matera is out of the question, it's a couple of hours' ride from Bari and then another bus or taxi to the old city. I've visited Matera from Bari, there are only a few buses a day. Otranto is also fairly distant. Alberobello and Lecce are a little closer, but again, your timing and the train/bus schedules may not coincide. You could spend some time in the old town of Bari, and go to the church of San Nicola.
