Sistine Chapel late in day

Hello,
I will be in Rome on Wednesday, February 26th. I realize this is the day the Pope dose his blessing and it is a Jubilee year. Can anyone tell me if visiting the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's late afternoon would be less busy than first thing in the AM? I was thinking of getting there around 4pm thinking the crowds will have dispersed. Or is this a busier time as people tend to save it for later in the day. thank you, Laura

Later in the day will probably be less crowded since most tour groups would have come earlier. But you’ll need to work out the logistics.

Seeing the Sistine Chapel requires a timed entry ticket to the Vatican Museum; you’ll spend at least an hour getting through the museum to and from it plus admiring it. It’s also a 15-30 minute walk from St. Peter’s to the museum entrance. See how late a ticket you can get for the museum - being less than a month out you may have to purchase a tour if all the regular tickets are sold out. But you can always ditch the tour if you want as soon as you get inside. Then work out how late you can leave St. Peter’s and get to the museum entrance on time, and thus how late you can get to St. Peter’s, wait an hour or more in the security line, then tour inside before leaving. Good luck with the trip!
