Is it possible to view the Sistine Chapel without going through the museum? This may be a silly question but I've just read RS Rome and I'm not sure
Thanks. RG
Short answer, no. For more info, go to Roninrome.com here: http://www.roninrome.com/sites-and-attractions/20-tips-on-visiting-the-vatican-museums
And scroll down to tip #6.
You have to walk all the way through the prescribed route to get there...last time we were there they funneled us through a rope line almost the whole way...wall-to-wall people. You just have to be patient.
Without the crowds it takes a half hour of brisk walking to get to the chapel. The only way to do it is to go through the museums but along the way you get to see some really incredible artwork.
