Siracusa to Noto

Getting to Noto today could have gone a bit more smoothly. Here are some thoughts that we hope will help others. Whether taking the bus or a train to Noto, the least expensive way to get to either station is by using the Hop-on-Hop-off bus to Marconi. Taxis to either station from Ortigia run €15+. but the HOHO bus is only €5. We like trains, but it was definitely the wrong call for this voyage. Round trip was quite reasonable at €8 each, but getting the 2km from the Noto station to the main gate is tricky. Simply no cabs. None. It appears that many people walk up the 2 km hill, but that wasn’t an option for us. We finally found a scalper for a €15 trip 5 minute trip. According to the TI in town, the taxi company is “very small”. No kidding. There are two taxis. One was on the way to the airport; the other was off today. If you find yourself in need of a ride, exit the main gate and walk down the road past all the market stalls. At the end of that 5 minute walk, near where busses stop, sometimes “unofficial” taxis standby to fill the need. Our driver back to the station charged us only €10. A bargain.
