Siracusa Sicily; Ortigia island

Hello, I’m currently staying in Ortigia and I keep seeing the little gray Navetta bus and a am told it has regular stops. I have yet to see it stopped and no one seems to know where it actually makes stops. Can anyone describe the locations or the Navetta bus stop sign. I see Fermata bus signs but I am told the Navetta bus is not the same thing. Thanks so much!!

You mean the little bus that is 5euro per day? Our landlord told us to take the RED bus, 5 Euro per day, a bargain. Last October we used it several days and got on and off at Piazza Archimede, opposite the north side of the large Fountain of Diana in the center of Ortigia, a short walk from anywhere in Ortigia. siracusaopentour.com. It says Hop onHop off. Cheaper than using a taxi. We took it twice, one day to the Teatro Greco and another day to the Museo Archeological. You could do both on same day but we were there a week so spread them out. You get a little tour of Siracusa while riding there which is interesting, a nice city. And one day we walked back to Ortigia, stopped for lunch in Siracusa.
We loved Ortigia! Had wonderful meals at Locanda del College and Regina Lucia, and a terrible experience at Don Camillo..

Lori,
I took the navetta (minibus) a couple of times last Spring. The navetta makes several stops along the island and also in Siracusa. Just make sure you take the right one.
Blue Line 1 makes a loop from train station to Ortigia. Red Line 2 makes a loop from Ortigia to Siracusa. You’ll find more info here:
Siracusatravel.com

You can get a day ticket (€3) in the minibus from the small yellow ticket machine behind the driver (cash only)

One morning I was waiting for the navetta (Red Line 2) just past the Umbertino bridge, after waiting for 40-50 minutes, I, along with another couple, ended up taking the red hop on hop off (red bus) that Suki described above (€5/day). While waiting for the navetta, we saw 2-3 navetta ( Blue line 1 ) drive by the stop; I finally asked one of the drivers when the navetta #2 would come by, the driver shrugged his shoulders and said, “no lo so...” ( I don’t know)

Consider eating a delicious lunch or dinner ( reservations recommended for dinner) at my favorite place in Ortigia;
Sicilia in Tavola, and say hello to my friend Doriana! Make sure you try the scrumptious tiramisù made with pistachio cream!

The best gelato is at Gelateria Gusto on Piazza Minerva behind the cathedral, enjoy!

Enjoy your time in beautiful Ortigia!

Here's my trip report on Siracusa, if you're interested: Siracusa and Noto...
Oh, how I wish I were in Ortigia now!

Here's a larger map showing the Red line 2 minibus route: Shuttle but to Siracusa

Thank you for the valuable feedback and link. I talked to a British couple on the red hop on/off bus and they said they have tried to catch the Navetta for a week with no luck.

Any car rental agency recommendations? I’d like to drive Agrigento, I have met a friend of a friend here in Ortigia that has driven in Sicily and she is game to drive and I navigate. The bus through Catania is very indirect and we’d like to explore the area between Siracusa and Agrigento in a car.

We are hopeing to take the same route next spring, Siracusa to Agrigento. Doesn't look like there are any good connections that are streamline.

Just wondering if you have already taken it or have found any answers to driving. If so, will you take the southern route along the coast or the autostradas going thru/near Catania?
Thank and happy travels!

We went Agrigento to Villa Romana Casale in the center of the island for a few hours to view the mosaics, then to Noto for the night and finally to Ortigia where we dropped off our car and spent a week.
