I am a American of Italian decent who will be traveling to Italy, specifically Umbria (Norcia) region to meet family members.
I am a single mother of a 13 year old bi racial child. Will our travels be met with any problems? With my family I am sure I will be safe however I am wondering if any minorities have visited in this region and can provide me with any insight... any thoughts would be appreciated. I am very protective of my son and want this trip to be memorable for all of the right reasons.
I couldn't tell you about that region but I have traveled to Rome, Venice, Florence and Sienna with know problems I'am a africian-american female
I am a single Dad with a bi-racial (white & pacific islander) daughter. We experienced nothing but kind treatment in Rome, Siena, Florence and Milan. For that matter, we've also been treated well in Spain, France, the Netherlands and England.
In all honesty, the only place we've ever gotten weird looks was when we lived in Virgina, sad to say.
I too think you will be fine. Keep in mind that in small towns people will look at any stranger - regardless of race. Greet people a smile and a "Buon Giorno." If anyone is ignorant you will kill them will kindness. Have a great time.
