Single Economy Room in Ortisei or Kastelruth

I'm looking to stay 2 nights in either of these towns but only need a small room for myself. I'll have a car too. Has anyone done solo trip there and which town is better?

Time of year? Hotel budget in euros? You might start looking on booking.com and filter for budget and amenities, including parking. Book directly with the hotel if possible.

I have stayed in both towns (and a number of others) as a solo traveler during ski season. Kastelruth is much smaller than Ortisei so where to go depends on what you want. As suggested start, lurking on Booking.com to see what is available when you want to go. You might also try Santa Christina or Selva farther east where prices may be a bit better because they is less well known. Hint: If you are going at popular times always get a cancellable reservation and continue lurking since other people's plans change and unavailable locations now may temporarily reopen if others cancel.

I think you'll do best by focusing on places outside the towns/villages you named. People like me, traveling without a car, are more or less stuck with the higher-priced lodgings near bus stops. You aren't limited in that way. If you go to booking.com and search for places in Ortisei, there will be some hotels/guesthouses/apartments located outside the town, even a few miles away. The rates for some of them may be appealing.

You can also go to Google Maps and zoom way in on part of the surrounding area. Most likely some lodging icons will show up--places I wouldn't be able to consider. Some of those Google listings may include a website you can simply click on. For others, you may find contact information by searching. I don't know whether there are little tourist offices in Ortisei or Kastelruth; if there are, their websites may have lists of lodgings that include places out in the countryside.

There also might be one or more youth hostels in the area, perhaps with private rooms available. Booking.com occasionally shows listings for hostels, but there are probably better sources for that type of lodging.

If you haven't used booking.com before: One reason I like it for initial research is that the reviews are generally trustworthy. You can't leave a review there unless you've actually stayed at the property. If you can find a way to reserve a room directly, you may pay less than you would through booking.com, but on occasion it works the other way.
