We loved Rosa Rossa in Venice. It's casual but the quality of food is good and the prices are very reasonable. We ate there 3 times in 5 days this past August and really enjoyed it. I've also heard great things about La Zucca in Venice though we weren't able to secure a reservation for the night we wanted. In Sorrento, we enjoyed Delfinos in Marina Grande. The portions are huge and again, the prices very reasonable; they are known for their seafood dishes but I had the gnocchi which was delicious.

cheri,

My memory is a bit foggy on some of these, but a few thoughts on restaurants in each of the places that you listed....

  • Verona: the food at the restaurants along Piazza Bra seemed to be average quality, but quite touristy and overpriced. I found one nice restaurant on a back street, but would have to check my notes to get the name.
  • Assisi: there were a couple that I enjoyed, but will have to check my notes tomorrow and add those later.
  • Sorrento: if your budget will allow, I'd highly recommend a fine meal at L' Antica Trattoria. I found both the food and service to be exceptional.
  • Rome: one restaurant that I've enjoyed on several occasions is Trattoria Antica Boheme (~78 Via Napoli, near Termini station). It's in kind of a dead-end alley close to Hotel Sonya, and I've always found the food and service there to be good. Judging by the photos on the walls, many famous people have dined there.
  • Orvieto: One that I really enjoyed was L' Antica Rupe. Again, not cheap but exceptional food and great service (at least IMO).
  • Lucca: I found a great Pizzeria/Trattoria just up the street from the station, but will have to check my notes and add the name tomorrow.

Sounds like you have quite a trip planned!

Happy travels!
