Hi, We'll be bringing an unlocked texting phone and plan to buy a SIMS card in Rome. Is it like here that when you have SIMS card on a texting phone, you can call and also text on the phone ? Sorry to ask this question but I jusy need to verify. Thanks.

I don't have personal knowledge about Italy, but the answer should still be "yes." When you get the SIM, you should be able to determine the cost for text messages. As a general rule, if the phone works for calls, it will also work for text messages. This answer is not always true, however, for MMS messages and certainly not true for data. MMS's may require special configuration of the phone's settings. Data almost always does, although some phones are getting better about self-configuration. My Android phones, for example, seem to be able to figure out the necessary settings to work based on the SIM card used.

sally, Most (all?) basic calling plans provide both voice and text (SMS) capability, so the SIM you purchase in Rome should work fine. Be sure to check the Phone Charger to ensure that it's designed for "world operation". Happy travels!
