SIMM card in Europe?

Has anyone switched their SIMM card in Italy for your GSM phone (T-Mobile or ATT phone)? Which service did you use there? Did it work well? Did you get a data plan for it? Was it pre-paid? How much will I expect to pay? I would love to use my phone's GPS and all the other features.

I brought my Tmobile phone from home and tried to get a sim card but it was locked. Instead I bought a disposable phone from WIND for $30 euro which came with $10 euro worth of minutes at 9 cents a minute.
It worked great.

Miguel. I brought my unlocked and jailbroken Iphone, and put a prepaid ($20EU) non data TIM SIMM Card in it this past June.

I also brought an AT&T RAZR that was supposed to be unlocked, but found it was not. So I stuck my US SIM card in that and used it to monitor emergency calls from home.

The mistake I made was not finding someone that spoke excellent English to help me set up the IPhone. I ran out of minutes, and could not understnd why it would accept text messages, but would not send them. The error messages that I got were in Italian. I also could not understand what they were telling me when I tried to listen to my voicemail.

I did get to use the WiFi, and found that to be a good. And I had no problem logging into my Email.

Next time I will see if I can find someone that can help me with a prepaid data plan.
