Sim cards for iPads

I am going to Genoa and the Cinque Terre and want to take my iPad 2 as my camera, for messaging and for the map functions so I will need data. Can anyone who has done this tell me about buying the sim card, cost for data ,etc?

Is your IPad2 from Verizon or from AT&T? If it is a Verizon IPad2 it has a CDMA chipset which is not compatible with European GSM carriers. The Verizon IPad2 doesn't even have a SIM card slot. If it is an AT&T IPad2 there are multiple European carriers that sell prepaid IPad2 micro-SIM cards. You can usually find them at European airports, if you want one right away.

was just in italy and used my ipad 2. Went to the TIM store and bought a 10 GB sim card and worked very well for a 17 day trip with 4 people using the ipad. you can also get a 2 GB sim card. think cost was about 35 euro. 2 GB card was only 10 euro cheaper as I recall.

Agree with Harold. That was the website I did my research on SIM card options before leaving for Italy. I ended up going with TIM. They have prepaid micro-SIM cards which we ended up using on our iphone & ipad. Can't remember the cost but there was a bundle promo at that time - XX GB data for XX Euro. We never exceeded our data quota even after reading emails, logging into Facebook, using Google maps, etc etc for 20 days.

I called AT&T and purchased International Data for the time we'll be away. It was quick and easy! They have different "plans"to choose from.
