Sim Card used as your hotspot

Hey question for everyone’s ... we are headed to Italy on Tursdsy and we’re planning to buy a local SIM card so that we have access to internet while we are there. We are only going to get 1 Sim Card, but can my wife use her phone using my hotspot?

Maybe. Depends on the SIM and the mobile provider. Some providers allow hotspot ("tethering"), some don't. And each provider offers different plans (e.g. a tourist plan targeted for foreigners by most of the companies).

I used my Dutch Vodafone SIM as a hotspot (in Italy and elsewhere) in May. But even though Vodafone in Italy is of the same parent company, they may operate with different rules in each country. So I can't say for sure that an Italian Vodafone SIM will allow the use as a hotspot.

Reading this, it seems Vodafone Italy may not allow hotspot in every case or not for free:

That page also claims tethering is allowed by TIM - so maybe you're better off starting at a TIM store.

Best I can say is: ask in the mobile store when you are buying it whether you can use tethering/hotspot. Insist that you need this feature. Then make sure before you leave the store that your wife's phone works while connected to your phone as a hotspot.
