SIM Card Purchase in Italy

We will be arriving in Genoa (from Ventimiglia) on a Sunday by train and will pick up a rental car at the Genoa airport the same day. I'm wondering if it will be possible to purchase a SIM card for an unlocked cell phone at the train station or airport in Genoa - keeping in mind that we will be there on a Sunday. From what I've read, most places are closed on Sundays.

Thanks

I would suggest you wait to purchase a SIM card from one of the cellular stores, which will for sure be open on Monday.

If there is any problem installing and getting the card running, they can help you. I made the mistake of attempting to install a Italian SIM card later, and the help line was only in Italian.

Don't forget to get your home cellular store to unlock your phone, and make sure it's a GSM phone or a format that works in Europe. Verizon subscribers often have to rent a GSM phone from Verizon to use overseas.

I recently switched over to T Mobile that has an unlimited text/data/voice $60 plan in the U.S. without a monthly contract. Their international plan is unlimited text and data and $.20 voice calls per minute.
