SIM card purchase

Dear Sir We are going to Cinque Terre, Milan and Florence for 3 weeks. We are planning to buy a SIM card from Italy. It requires to provide passport number if we purchase SIM card before we are leaving. We have concern to give Passport number thru web or email. We need to provide mobile phone when we book the hotel. Do you know can we get Italy SIM card from here (like eurail pass)? Thanks
Susan

You don't have to provide the hotel with a mobile phone no. That's just a line on a booking form. If they need to get in touch with you before you arrive; well: they have your home contact info! And while you're there: well, you are already there, aren't you! Buy a SIM card when you arrive, at any TIM, WIND, or Vodafone phone store. It costs about 10-15 Euro, including a fair amount of talk time to get you started. It activates almoet immediately it goes into the phone.
Of course: you need to make sure you have a phone that is compatible with European systems, and is unlocked.
