SIM card for Italy and Slovenia

Hi There,
Can anyone recommend a SIM card brand for travelling in Italy and Slovenia. We presently have cell phones on a Canadian network. My wife and I would also like the ability to text, in addition to data and voice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciarted. Thank you.

The only italian offer for tourists that Comes not only with 4G data and minutes, but also with texts is Vodafone's.

All the other companies assume everybody chats these days.

Like all offers, It doesn't work all over Europe: it works all over the E.U. Out of the Union, you'd pay the roaming fares per minute/text/MB.

My Dutch Vodafone SIM works in both Italy and Slovenia. I've used it in both countries - just used it again in Italy last month. You can buy this SIM on eBay for $11 USD. Comes with no credit. It's really not a great choice for texting or calling, though, just for data. You can text with apps like WhatsApp, perhaps, and make calls back to Canada with Skype (add $10 credit to your Skype account, then you can call Canadian phone numbers for a few cents/minute, will work with the SIM's data or on WiFi).

I think the Italian Vodafone or TIM tourist SIMs (have to buy them in Italy, not ahead of time) come with more data than you'd get from Vodafone NL and may come with actual calling minutes, but texting might cost a few cents/text, just like the Dutch Vodafone SIM. (But incoming calls and texts should be free on all of those SIM cards.)

Has anyone had any experience with Lycamobile? We are headed to Italy and Slovenia for 2 weeks. Any packages that are preferred? Thank you.

I bought one for NYC and the data connection never worked, I could only call and text. I doubt the Italian branch works better.

Did you set the APN (Access Point Name?). Sometimes you need to do that with certain SIM cards to get the data to work.
