This April my husband & I would like to see the top attractions in Rome in 3 days. Does Rome have a city pass that includes numerous sites? Which places is it worth it to hire a personal guide, or are the group tours the way to go?
Suggest you purchase Rick Steves' new 2019 Italy guide. It will really give you the nuts and bolts about sightseeing and the best way to see the city. This is especially critical given your very short time in Rome.
You may want to check out the small group tours by Dark Rome. We did 3 tours with them in 2017--nighttime Rome walking tour, nighttime Colosseum tour, and early morning Vatican tour. The groups were 12-15 people each, usually 12. Enjoy!
We used a group tour in Rome for the Forum/Colosseum and the Vatican. There were about 10-12 people on each tour. We had headsets so hearing what the guide was saying was easy. A private guide would be nice but very expensive in comparison. We used through Eternity Tours. They were the best tours we've experienced anywhere in Europe. They also have tours to Pompeii and out of Florence.
While in Rome, don't forget to do a day trip to Ostia Antica https://www.ostia-antica.org/
and explore the Trastevere neighborhood.

Hello,
I use visitacity.com and build my own itinerary. You can actually add addresses, pick the top attractions, and put in your dinner choices. It will give you the walking directions, transportation and place your sites in order so you maximize your time. I have used it for Greece, Italy, and Paris.
Here is the pass.

You can purchase it for 48 and 72 hours. It does NOT include the Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel. Transportation by bus, metro and tram is included. It works best by using the most expensive sites first, like a combo of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill ((considered as 1 entry) and the Borghese Gallery, then paying 1/2 price for the next most expensive site you're interested in. Which are listed below.

You have to book tours seperatly if using it.
The only way to see if it works for you is to do the math.
