Sienna & Day Trips

I plan on staying 4 nights at the Agriturismo Marciano, Sienna from 9/21-9/24. I am by myself and plan to rent a car in Sienna. Current plans - Day 1-Sienna; Day 2- San Gimignano & Voltera; Day 3- Montalcino & Montepulciano; Day 4- either a trip to Radda in Chianti & Castellina in Chianti or more Sienna. I love exploring new places but wouldn't mind sitting down and enjoying a little wine. I will want to have at least a couple of meals at Agriturismo Marciano. This is the middle of my first 18 day Italian trip - Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast & Rome. Any suggestions for seeing Tuscany/Umbria from Sienna? What other places in the area have you enjoyed?

Sounds pretty good to me! The only place I might put on the list would be Assisi. Doing this would mean to remove another. Just a personal preference would be San Gimignano & Voltera if you are looking for the food/ wine experience. Great towns. They just feel a little over-hyped to me. I loved them both, but Assisi was by far a highlight of my last Spring Tuscany trip. It may be one of the most beautiful towns I have seen in Italy. Loved Radda and Castellina on a previous trip too. Again, fantastic wine and food. I would NOT skip Montalcino though. Amazing restaurants and of course Brunello. Enoteca Al Giullare may have been the best meal I have ever had. Have a good time!

Agriturismo Marciano is fabulous. I wouldn't miss any of their optional dinners. The food and wine is wonderful and interacting with the other guests is so much fun. They will tell you where to park on the day you go to Siena to avoid any ZTL's. We were there for 4 nights, which meant 3 full days. We spent one in Siena, one in Voltera/San Gimignano and one in Pienza/Montelpuciano with a stop at an abbey on the way. Were you planning on seeing Siena the day you arrive?

Andrea, Yes, i will be taking a bus from Florence in the morning and picking up a car in Sienna probably in the morning. I will take my bag to Agriturismo Marciano and then go back to see Sienna. Have you been to any of the castles in Chianti - Castello di Meleto •Castello Di Spaltenna •Castello di Brolio. Are they worth adding to the Chianti day trip? Thank you.

I didn't have time for Chianti. Another trip is in future plans. Have them tell you at Marciano where you should park when you go to Siena. Will you have a GPS? I highly recommend one!
