Siena to Volterra by bus vs. Florence to Volterra by bis

Hello, I have read Forum responses from 2017 re: taking the bus from Siena to Volterra (for the day).Any current suggestions for the smoothest route to Volterra from either Sienna or Florence? My present plan is to take Siena Mobilita bus to Colle d’V , and take the connection from there to Volterra. Thank you in advance for your responses.

If traveling from Florence you also change buses in Colle Val d'Esla, so very little difference in the two options other than maybe a slight difference in the travel time. Keep in mind that there are fewer buses from both Siena and Florence on Sundays.

I have not gone from Florence but I did go from Volterra to Florence via bus and train. You can take a train from Florence to Pontedera and then a bus up to Volterra. You buy bus tickets right outside of the train station at a newsstand and then walk a few hundred feet to the bus terminal. It might take too long for a day trip but was easy to do. We stayed in Volterra for a few nights, it is a lovely town!

If you were to take the bus from Pontedera, avoid any bus marked "S" (scuola) on the schedule as it will be filled with rowdy school students and you'll likely have to stand until they start to get off. The day I rode it, they wouldn't even give up a seat to a very elderly woman until the bus driver intervened.
