Siena to Rome- Train or Bus?

Will be returning a rental car in Siena and need to get to Rome on a Saturday. Both Termini and Tiburtina stations in Rome are about 25 min from my lodging in Rome. Looking for thoughts on train vs. bus.
Thanks

We have always taken the train to Tiburtina and we prefer Italotreno Florence to Rome.. We had the car rental place in Siena call a cab for us. Haven't used the buses yet. The train will take you to Florence first using a regional train from Siena to Florence. Then change to the fast train there. So you will buy one regional fare and one fast train fare to Rome. I have also never gone to Termini. I like the Tiburtina station, has a nice coffee shop too.

Edit to clarify, we dropped our car off in Siena because we had three more days to spend there. If your comfortable with driving on to Rome or Orvieto that is your choice. I haven't done that so can't comment.

Take the direct bus it terminates at Tiburtina so you do not have go to Florence in the opposite direction to change trains

If you have a car already, I don't see why you are returning it in Siena if you are going to Rome afterwards.

My first choice would be to return it in Rome (which location depended on the company you are renting from).
My second choice would be Orvieto (Hertz only) or Chiusi. You can take a train to Rome from either.

There is no extra charge for returning the car to a different location, as long as within Italy.

Returning the car in Siena would be my last choice. But if that is what you want, then th bus is probably the better choice.
