Siena to Rome Question

I will be traveling from Siena to Roma on Sat. Sept. 22 - I would like to book a train now to get a cheaper price. I am confused about one of the options on trenitalia. For the first leg, from Siena to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, under "train" it says "Autobus FI201" and then the second leg from Chiusi-Chiancianco Terme to Roma Termini is on an Intercity 581. Is the first leg on a regular bus? Does this make sense? Thanks!

The first leg of the trip will be on a bus. It will probably be a motor coach since it only makes a few scheduled stops, but there's the possibility it could be similar to a city bus. Main differences would be seat comfort and where you store your luggage – underneath (motor coach) or luggage rack.

Thanks for your reply. I know that in Siena the train station and bus station are not near each other. Should I assume that the bus leaves from the train station?

I would presume so, but I'd suggest confirming once you're in Siena. If you arrive at the train station, confirm there. If you arrive at Piazza Gramsci, confirm at the bus station under the piazza.

If the Trenitalia lists a bus, it is probably operated by the Ferrovie dello Stato and logically would take you to the train station rather than the bus station. I took an FS bus from Siena a few months ago. When you get to Siena, if you are arriving by train, go to the tourist information office - they are very helpful and can tell you exactly where to catch the bus when it's time for you to leave.
