I wondered if anyone has tips for travel from Siena to Porto Venere via La Spezia? I'll be headed to the beach there in June but won't have a car and will need to travel by train and/or bus. Thanks!
Hi Susan -
Before diving too deep here, will you be staying in Porto Venere? I guess I'm curious that you're not trying to do this as a day trip from Siena?

Looks too far for a day trip
I'm thinking the same, Christine; look like 4 hours o.w. any way you shake it. That's OK if staying a few days but 8 hours of public transit for a day at the beach would be way too much for me.
Siena is not well connected to the sea by public transportation.
Most Senesi spend their beach time in the Province of Grosseto (mainly Follonica, Castiglion della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Marina di Grosseto, Principina a Mare), however they drive to those locales with their own car (about 1h15min drive) because by bus it takes almost 3 hours (with change in Grosseto). By train you could go to Viareggio, or Castiglioncello, but even in that case it's over 3 hours.
