We are renting a farmhouse near Siena. I would like to do a day trip and drive up to Pisa, see the tower, than either drive to Lucca for lunch and finish with the CT. Is this too much. Should we skip Lucca and go from Pisa to CT?
It is too much. Siena to Pisa to Lucca and back to Siena is pushing it, IMO. Save the CT for another trip.
Suppose we skip Lucca and go from Pisa to CT?
We are in the midst of doing the same sort of planning and I would say no, that would be unrealistic. The only possible way to make the CT day trip worthwhile would be to get up early and drive directly there, without seeing anything else. Given the twisty roads near there and the parking difficulty, plan on the drive, park & walk or bus into town to take five hours round-trip.
" Suppose we skip Lucca and go from Pisa to CT?" Sadly, still a no. Would you drive from Lake Worth to Orlando for lunch, go to Titusville for 3 hours and then drive home? There will be other trips!
It is too much. Don't skip Lucca, skip Pisa instead. There are hordes and hordes of tourists at Pisa...Lucca, on the other hand, is a sweet town and you can ride bicycles around the city wall...they have a lovely piazza for lunch. But don't try to include CT as well....either choose the Cinque Terra for the day (best is 2 days there) or a day trip to Lucca. That's my vote.
