I will be teleworking and taking Italian classes for a couple weeks in Siena and from there want to head down to Calabria to meet my elderly relatives. I would prefer to fly home out of Rome. Just wondering how people prefer to get to Calabria (not driving). My relatives are in Bovalino. Thank you
It's going to take some leg work, but I would look at flying to Reggio Calabria from Rome. There appears to be train service to Bovalino from RC, about an hour. You could also take train round trip from Rome if you don't wish to fly--about five hours. Do you have plenty of time to make the trip?
I would go to Bovalino from Siena and then return from Bovalino to Rome to fly out. I have some time--I work but don't want a super confusing way of getting there (like 3 train transfers or something) Thank you
I checked from Florence first but it does not look easy (flights not direct; train probably twice as long), so if you can travel out of Rome I think it will be much more convenient. It is pretty good luck that there is train service from Reggio Calabria to Bovalino! Travel in the region does not look particularly easy unless you are going along the coast by train or driving. Many who visit do seem to be doing family research. So nice to have relatives to visit, lucky you! I hope to visit the area's national parks one day.
