Siena to Amalfi Coast by Train

Hi, My husband and I are traveling from Siena to the Amalfi Coast. I know there isn't a direct train to the Amalfi Coast, but is there a direct train to Naples? How would we get to say, Sorrento from Naples? Hire a taxi? Thanks!

Colleen, That's actually a fairly straight forward trip. Depending on which train you choose, you'll likely travel either from Siena to Roma Termini and then Naples, with one change in Chiusi OR from Siena to Florence and then direct to Naples via EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita. Once you arrive in Naples, you'll need to go downstairs and transfer to the Circumvesuviana commuter train for the trip to Sorrento. Note that they have several lines, and Sorrento is the last stop on the line you'll be using. There are frequent departures on the Circumvesuviana and the costs are reasonable. Check Their Website for details. Be sure to watch your luggage on the Circumvesuviana, as it has a bit of a "reputation". You might want to pack along a copy of the Italy Guidebook, as it has LOTS of information on transportation, sights and local Guides in that area. Happy travels!
