Siena Sunday or Monday?

Hi all,

We are staying at an agriturismo near Siena City. This is our current plan (we would be driving)

10th Sept (Sunday): Morning - Drive to San G; Afternoon - Siena; Evening - Siena

11th Sept (Monday): Morning - Bagno Vignoni then Pienza; Afternoon Montepulciano

Questions:

1.) Would it be better to see the Duomo, Cripta, Museo Dell'Opera and Battistero on a Sunday or a Monday?

2.) How much time should I spend at bagno Vignoni, Pienza and montepulciano?

3.) how much time at San G? Possible to enjoy both Siena and San G on one day?

Thanks friends!

Thanks!

I would think Monday in the morning for Siena.
As far as how much time it takes to spend time in places I think you will know when you are done. Everyone is different.
But consider that Siena was a human traffic jam in spots for us in the afternoon on a Sunday this past January.

Just a heads up, I found that a lot of things are closed on Mondays in Italy.

In terms of sight openings in Siena, I believe Sunday and Monday hours are similar except for the Duomo which won't open until after lunch hour on Sunday due to morning services. If you haven't already done so, scan the opening hours in RS Italy guidebook for all sights you want to visit just in case some are closed one day or the other.

Pienza is quite small. I spent a couple of hours there and thought it was plenty. Montepulciano is larger and the amount of time will depend on how much you want to explore. It could be just a couple of hours or as much as 4-5 hours. It has some great places to eat, so you might plan extra time for lunch there. I've not been to Bagno Vignori.

There's so much to enjoy in Siena that I'd normally say devote an entire day. But since you have a car, going to San Gimignano in the morning and then staying as late as you please in Siena could be a good plan.

Jazz+Travels, Andrea,Frank: Thanks for the response!

Jazz+Travels: I think thats great advice. i think what i am going to do is to have a plan...and if i enjoy one place so much that i want to stay...than i will just stay at that place rather than "forcing myself" to check another place off the list. Good advice!

Frank: Thanks!
Yes: I am torn between just spending 1 entire day in Siena. And just soak in it...and to see one more sight to experience something different.
I will just see how i feel on the day itself!

Yeah perhaps just Pienza in the morning and then lunch at Montepulciano before heading back to chill at our Siena Agriturismo.

Thank you guys!!!
