There's a small pottery shop next to the Antica Residenza Cicogna B&B where I stayed. The shop owners (mother and daughter), sell a variety of beautifully hand painted ceramics from an artist in Deruta. They will carefully bubble wrap any ceramics you buy from them. I don't recall the name of the shop but the address is Via delle Terme, 74.

I know this is off topic but I wish someone had told me about these places before my visit to beautiful Siena!

• If you like gelato, you must go to 'Gelateria Kopakabana', on Via dei
  Rossi, 52.

• If you're in the mood for freshly baked bread, the best Ricciarelli (almond paste cookies), or crispy pizza, you
  must go to the ‘Consorzio Agrario’ (on Via Pianigiani, 5). This is a
  fabulous market where you'll find a large variety of wines, pasta and
  biscotti. There's also a bakery, a deli, and a meat market on the premises.
