We are planning on staying in Florence from a Saturday-Wednesday, doing the main sites inside Florence on Tuesday (to work around those wonderful schedules they have to be closed haha). We are planning to do a trip to Lucca and a trip to Siena on Sunday and Monday. Does anybody have any thoughts about which would work better on those days with the closures in those towns? Will Siena have more open as it’s a larger city? Or are they similarly open as they have a tourist draw? I do know about the less frequent transport options on a Sunday, but we can make that work.
My recollection is that, like Florence, a lot of Siena attractions are closed on Monday. Don't recall for Lucca. You may wish to review your guidebook for closure days/hours in Siena and Lucca on Sunday and Monday, and then decide which city to visit on which day. Transportation won't be an issue. Although bus service to Siena and Lucca is greatly reduced on Sunday, trains run frequently. Bus is usually preferred for Siena while train is usually preferred for Lucca. That said, I've taken the bus to Lucca and it's faster than the train if traveling outside of rush hour, but buses depart less frequently than the trains.
Yeah, that’s why we are thinking about going out of town on Sunday and Monday......we would be thinking about a bike tour for Siena and just a train for Lucca and a ride around the walls on a bike (apparently we like bikes?). We did Lucca on Monday last trip, so it seemed fine, but if this bike tour for Siena goes Monday or Sunday, I was wondering if Sunday would be a bad thing for Sunday (the bike tour company just has a day request, not a set schedule of days) or if they HAD to do it on a Monday, Sunday would be ok in Lucca....
Guess I should check the hours....
