I originally had resv for great villa (13th century)in wine country in Cortona - planned to be in the middle of Assisi and Siena (for day trips) WHEN we were renting a car. Now, we're taking train from Rome to Assisi for a night and then to Siena (maybe). From experience going there - would you prefer Siena or Cortona if you had to pick? Thanks, Judy

I'd have to vote for Siena, one of our favorite towns. Cortona is beautiful but there is so much to see and do in Siena. It is our favorite "getaway" city from Rome. We drive there often - by car or motorcycle.

HI Judy! I have been to both places on day trips and loved every minute of it. However, I'd choose Siena over Cortona just because there are so much more to do and see in Siena than Cortona. Regardless of the city you choose, I am sure you will have the best time. Happy travels!
