What is a better home base for Tuscany travel Siena or Arrezo? I want to go to Cortona so don't know which is a better and more fun location

Siena is a little more central - and though I am sure people have favorites and it is a apples to oranges comparison - I would have to say Siena would be on my list before Arezzo, simply for the sheer amount of things to see there. Not that Arezzo isn't great though! I think Arezzo would be a better day trip, while Siena would be a better base).
But - Arezzo is closer to the A1 if that is important to you -

Will you be driving or using public transportation? Where all do you want to visit outside of the town you're staying in? Just Cortona? Between Arezzo and Siena, I enjoy both of the towns, but I would recommend staying in Siena over Arezzo especially as you will be able to enjoy some of the town once the day-tripping crowd leaves in the evening. However, Arezzo is much closer to Cortona, only 20 min. via public transportation, so that could be a convenience in your favor if you are staying in Arezzo. From Siena via public transportation (bus to Arezzo, then to Cortona), it would take you probably at least a couple of hours. Did you want to visit any other towns? If they are in the proximity of one of the two you are deciding between, this could help your decision.
